I recently learned my first Elmer is SK. Charles "Carl" Fenske VE7BGV/W7 of Knappa Oregon went SK on 21 May 2006. Carl was Canadian; a chemical engineer as I recall, and was employed at the Crown Zellerbach Mill in Wauna Oregon. He was born 17 May 1928. Sometime around 1968 I met Carl, he was the only ham in the community that I knew at the time. Spent many wonderful hours at Carl's place, he taught me code, let me operate phone patch, etc. Carl was a great Elmer. As I recall he could do 35 to 40 gpm's. In 1971 I enlisted in the service and never saw him again. I only just got licenced in October 2008. Recently tried to find him so I could tell him the news and learned of his passing. I still retain many things Carl taught me. If anyone reading this knew Carl, I would enjoy hearing from you.
