A friend and I summited Mt McLoughlin (W7O/CS-001). It was slow going through the forest in the dark. Once we were on the mountain our pace improved. We made summit by 8am and got on the air to try to get some morse code QSOs. I started on 40m and then moved to 20m. We were hearing snow and ice slumping off the summit, so chose to cut it short and QRT.

Thanks to all the stations that chased me and tried to chase me. Wish we would've had time to get everyone in the log!

Awesome! I need to get out earlier to catch more SOTA stations. I’m hoping to get out to some more summits once it gets warmer. As Dirty Harry said, “A man’s got to know his limitations”.

Fun, sport, challenging, successful, inspiring, great reporting too... our hobby's realm.

    Way to go :)

PS. SOTA is just born in Brazil (believe me or not), when (not "if") I live in the mountains, I hope more realistic taxes allow me to import a neat QRP rig.

That NW7E sound like he was running a bug.

I was also surprised by the short distances from the handheld at that altitude.

Yeah, I often mess up NW7E's call with NW7[T]. For the longest time I heard it as N[G]7[T] for some reason.

re: short distances, I guess it partly depends on who is listening in the early morning :D

Terrific video/audio production, and a great climb, Tim! As a Medford teenager more than 60 years ago, I of course knew about McLoughlin (we pronounced it Mc-LOFF-lin in those days...not sure if there's a 'right way' to say it)...a wonderful accent point, and I thought the highest between Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Shasta along the Pacific Crest volcanic ridge. I was corrected on that when I consulted Wikipedia; the South Sister (which I climbed with friends, along with the Middle Sister too) is at 10,063 feet or something like that. I'll look forward to more of your adventures, if you post them. Really impressed at the quality of your production, and of course in admiration of your fete!
