Greetings! Aside from ham radio, I participate in songwriting challenges. And yesterday, wrote this spoken-word song about ham radio. Sharing it here for posterity… 73!
Lyrics: He got on his ham radio and listened for traffic Not hearing any, he said “calling any station” CQ CQ CQ He often made contact And remarks about the day He could operate from computer to computer With morse code Or with his speaking voice Some of the people he talked to Had a portable radio Others had a mobile station or base station They used all of those methods With an antenna The antenna was key to everyone’s connection In every way The radio mattered much less than the antenna did They all needed one to play In ham radio You can transmit overseas Stateside and within your home town Every time you transmit a signal You have the hope of getting out BREAK Ham radio is for techies, hobbyists, and the like It requires a government license Is not CB Has a public service sector Even doomsday preppers He got on his ham radio and listened for traffic Not hearing any, he said “calling any station” CQ CQ CQ
A quick note about one lyric: I describe ham radio as having a “public service sector.” I know that’s not the standard terminology. I chose the phrase artistically rather than to make a technical distinction.
