I did not know Bob Golder personally, just exchanged a few emails with him. He was one of the voices of 14.300 mhz, the Maritime Mobile Service Network transmitting out of his home in Maine.

I first heard him as a SWL, before I became a ham. I thought, "What a cool thing to do, not just ragchewing about this amp or that mic, but really doing something that benefits a lot of people."

I looked up the MMSN, somehow found Bob's page and shot him an email, telling him I regularly listened to him way down here in Louisiana, great signal and all that. We exchanged a few emails about what he did and he was very encouraging about me getting a license.

Bob Golder was a good part of why finally became a ham.
