I would do this if you allowed anchored vessels, I am not able to really operate underway except maybe for an HT. I'll be doing FD from the boat this year, away from the dock but at anchor in the ocean. Maybe for next year you could consider a rule that allowed boats at anchor to participate.
Oh how fun! I will try to reach you on the 20 meter SSB frequency on that day. I hope you guys take some pictures on your antenna setups. What antennas will you be using? What radios will you use? How far out will you be when you operate? Have fun! 73 Curtis K7LOM Bayview, Idaho
... All stations must use mobile equipment and not a permanent installation. So, there goes your ship's highly efficient station, just saying. Great pages, Horst! I am not able to contribute, although my interest for radio grew when in the Merchant Marine, decades ago, I only became ham recently. Chip, you dared looking up «xoxota» sure? Promised myself gonna read your pages on a bigger screen... fractalized on a tiny un-smartphone. Oliver
I just realized I am not included either, my HF gear and antenna are permanently installed. This is BOTATUDHAHR * Boats On The Air That Usually Don't Have An HF Radio
Indeed!! RTFR applies, rule n°2 here. More exactly, your ship/boat could have a commercial station but activation should be dealt with a non-permanent antenna/rig. Exactly the situation that upset Radio-Officers, back in time, a radio-amateur on board messing with their own tfc. And I thought NAABSA was a long and tricky one! Oliver
PS. If I remember well, meals of this very day were changed so that we did not need any knife quicker resolved on board a ship than a skirmich with a neighbour longing for months (decades, in dumb Brazil hole). Oliver
I would like to take DOTA - Dogs on the air. On certain occasions while portable my dog Bindi will be barking in the background of my qso's in the event of a squirrel or a deer near by. When this happens we will be issuing a special qsl and a milk bone for correct reception reports. Thanks and have a great day.
Yeah, same. I bring my portable gear to work. I will not get on the air when underway. Anchor and dockside are my only options. Oh well
