    Hi,
I'm trying to be able to contact someone who's only 4 miles away, by CW.

His situation is limited, and only has a magloop at the moment, or rubber ducks for different radios. We cant 'work' using 70Cms, 2Mtrs 40Mtrs or 2mts so far. He has a window approx 20 feet up, so he could dangle a wire, if that would work.

Are there any suggestions, for what may work, please?
    Cheers, Camerart.

A Mag mount on a cookie sheet should work.

That is what I use. I talk to repeaters 30 miles away on a HT.

Assuming HF, (due to the mag loop), I would use 10 meters. The antenna are easy to build for you, and his loop "should" perform "well" there, assuming it is built correctly, and designed for low bands.

    Wow.

Sounds like something is wrong with the setup on one end or the other. Four miles should be easy to cover on any of those bands unless there's some kind of mountain between you. I regularly work locals here on those bands, and we bend each other's S-meters, even on NVIS antennas.

Have you checked cables and connectors to make sure that your signal isn't getting eaten somewhere? Are you getting power out when transmitting? You said you can't communicate, but can either of you hear the other?

    I agree.

A dummy load should be good enough, On HF. o_O

Something that you need to get permission from your wife, Before using it for a antenna.

A metal oil drip pan may work even better.

    Hi N,

His magloop is a bought one, and suitable for low bands. He has just checked with a test site, and he's being received a couple of 100 miles away. But I can'thear him.

    Hi K,
As mentioned he's been heard quite a distance, and I spoke to someone this morning a few miles away on 40Mtrs, so it seems like it's buildings or the hill between us. ~No sound each way?
