Looking for opinions, who makes the best amplifiers?
How much are you willing to spend?? I have had good experiences with Both the Ameritron 811H and the AL-1500.
The guy who rolls his own, of course.
For what bands? HF amplifiers are quite different from VHF amplifiers, which are quite different from microwave amplifiers.
If HF, do you have a preference between tubes and transistors?
Flex (but you can't get them) and Elecraft, at times Elecraft offers .000000000000000000000000000001% discounts.
FatBoy and Texas Star. Get the one with them most "pills".
I just bought an Ameritron ALS-500m. Solid State. NO warm-up. Very quiet. 400 watts cw. 500 watts SSB. I recommend.
Bang for the buck is the Ameritron AL-811H.
YES. I think broadcasts amps are into the megawatt range... A wee bit of charge in the Amateur range. Give your call sign, and we can recommend something a bit form fitting.
Otherwise, WHY are you looking in the "Amateur ranks?" We (legally) are in the LOW kilowatt range. (MEGAWATT , TROLL detected)
That and some guy named Dave is all the rage!! Swing is the thing!!
But really, the AL-80B is the best bang for the buck out there for HF.
Only 2 good amps made.
Yours and mine and I am not sure about yours.
