using keyboard? can you bring up a repeater. im reading the words off the pages of the much abbreviated"instruction"pamphlet,CANNOT get 600000 offset,
i get 476 mhz? trying to hit a local 2 meter rptr.
i ordered the cable but tried to download the "free " chirp. no such thing as free,GOTTA make donation!!
i d send a check but dont want to use a credit card/paypal to ???

btw i find the uv5r to be good looking, hefty for small ht, super styled, looks like tough miletary stuff,
great battery, nice multi color recessed display, nice voice feedback, actually ez to find menu stuff, a really nice ht,and a super price, BUT I CANT MAKE IT WORK.

anyone get a decoder ring to work with the 40 step menu?, then the 10 or so steps that follow the 40 and then,,,end??? leaving me hanging...
    step by step please,get me into 146,775,down 600,pl 131.8...

Google it. There are a number of sites that have decoded the evil Chinglish Baofeng manual for mortals to program.

I know a disabled ham with no use of his hands and can program a UV5R with just his tongue and teeth - true story.

Just Google it - there are lots of "plain English" programming guides.

Are you using a shift value of - .600 not 600 or 60000 or any other sized number?
146.970 minus .6 = 146.370. Remember your programming the processor to shift the VFO - 600 khz upon transmit and send a tone to unlock the repeater receiver so you can talk through the repeater.
The shift has to be negative. Then add the PL tone.
    Then commit to memory.
On any normal radio that's all there is to it.
Don't need any computer or cables to do this.
Look at the keys and find out what does the functions. It's the same for any analogue FM radio.
    Why is this so difficult?
Understanding the process leads you to do it.
    Good luck.

Yes. It does ask for a donation but it is not required.
The OP needs to navigate the CHIRP website a little more than he did.

I have a Woxun, I figured it out with much difficulty but the next time I want to add or change something I have to go through the whole learning process again. Very simple solution that is worth every penny is the programming software. Makes programming or changing anything very quick, very easy .
