From yesterday VK amateurs have been able to apply for shorter callsigns for use only during contests.

VJ, VK and VL prefixes will be available.

Previously the shortest callsign an Australian amateur could use had two letters in the suffix.

    More in this video.

Why don't we give just one letter to the best contest stations worldwide? Or why bothering to give them callsigns at all? As well as RST and any other data to receive, because they so much slow down this fast paced, beautiful, entertaining activity called contest. Eventually, we just have to send in the plain recording of what we received and sent - one dot and one dash, or one spoken letter on SSB, nothing more is needed - then the organizer's computers will perfectly identify who called/received who else...
