Then why didn't you have your Extra when you were 7 years old?

It is hard to say,as there are no reliable overall statistics.

Many countries nowadays issue licences for life, with no renewal requirement,
and do not always delete SK:s from the ranks.
This makes "callbook figures" very unreliable.

However, a quite common estimate is that about 1% of the population is added each year as new licences, but from demographic data, an average of about 3% are lost due to attrition each year. This means that there currently is a net yearly loss of about 2%.
Here,no distinctions are made between "active" and "inactive" amateurs.

As the current age structure is that more than 10% are 80 years of age or above, it is reasonable to expect an increasing rate of attrition,
Some years ago a prediction was made in Germany by a life insurance actuarian that claimed that in 2025 the average age would
have become around 75 and the population reduced by at least 1/3.

Certifications are different than a federal license. If I wanted too, nothing prohibits me from starting my own race course, where I devise my own rules. I could invite whomever I choose, and race whatever type of car I choose. No license needed.

I was scared of CW, yet when I put the tape into the machine, I found it easy!

Yes, you could, but race tracks are usually privately owned. The electromagnetic spectrum is not.

Was probably busy doing the chores, not thinking about ham radio.

Tell me something I don't know. It doesn't have to be this way though. ;)
