A license upgrade is not required for a race car driver to have a faster car.
Of course it is. Try moving up from go-carts to F1 Grand Prix racing. You must obtain certification at each level, or change classes as you change vehicle design/speed.
Same applies to racing aircraft. See the pages of certification and experience requirements and aircraft specifications to race in various classes at the National Reno Air Races.
OK, poor analogy... I feel very strongly that if an individual seeks more privileges, that person needs to work for them. But, it makes no sense if they don't even know what they're working for! Most people now a days go to a class. Does the person teaching the class not make it clear that the Technician license is a "beginner" license. That it is a "taste?"
No, but if you want to ride a motorcycle, drive a Big Rig or a bus, a different license is required. Although you still drive on the same streets, each requires a different set of skills that are kinda important to have before hitting the road.
Are we really still beating this up?
What is the trend in European licensing numbers? Does it mimic the US?
Using that analogy there is no reason for the Extra class.
With some it's a circular argument.
We need to get more people into the hobby.
We need to make it hard for people to get into the hobby.
Why aren't there more people on the air?
Why aren't more people getting into the hobby?
If no change repeat step 1
Nor for tulips. Huh?
