The only think about the 480 I don't like is the inability to ever connect the head to the radio. I personally don't want a small head on the desk with the rest of the radio elsewhere, even if right behind the unit. The 480HX is kinda a pain with the power/current requirements since it is 28 vDc finals (I believe). The 7200 is great. It just lacks a transmit audio monitor and FM but otherwise, a very rugged, dependable and well designed radio. the 1200 is good also, mid grade, you can get a like new one used for 700-900 which isn't bad either. It isn't a small radio just in height it is about 1-2 inches shorter. Width and depth is comparable to a larger base radio.

All depends on preferences and what you like. They will all work DX, hear weak signals well, tune out noise and NB other stuff quite well.

After a lot of research, I got the 480HX for mobile application 6 years ago and have been very happy with it. The 200W RF capability makes a big difference when operating from a mobile. No antenna tuner needed along with the Hi-Q 3/80 antenna or other screwdriver antenna ; just adjust the coil motor for highest receive noise and then jog on QRP for last tune to low VSWR. The HX is still a bargain and quite capable today. I use it for both SSB and digital mode Winlink email.
