Sold all my surplus HF rigs at HRO to many happy customers
Wait, what? What do you consider "surplus"?
How old is he? Sounds great that you are giving him an incentive.
Is it early April??
James is 17 and starting his senior year this year. He's planning on attending a local college, so he'll be close by to mentor. And he's learning CW to boot. He built his own oscillator. I got him on the hook, I just need to reel him in.
I feel bad for those that attempt to use a QRP rig and not know CW. QRP is all about making the other guy suffer!
We can debate on that all day long. and run it over with a train. QRP is my thing, not his. I'm also not QRP a 100% of the time. I just enjoy it. He wants to try digital modes and I'm not as into that. The beauty of ham radio, we can all find our slice. And unlike me, he has a ISS contact. He loves working satellites. Me? I try.
I take a KX3 to the beach, work a lot of DX but it is a struggle. I also have an Icom 7300. He sounds like a real asset.
From the beach- 10watts: ( I get a lot of questions and I take the time to answer).
A very nice setup, Burt. A KX3 would be a dream radio for me, as well as a 7300. Some nice DX in the log. I have to admit that mentoring a newer ham has definitely rekindled my love of radio. I just hope James finds it to be a lifetime hobby. I'll do my best.
Wait, what? You? You sold radios? You?
