I talked with him for a bit on one of our local repeaters when he came through while traveling. I was really working hard to get good on CW at the time. He was so far beyond what I could ever thought was possible. I wish I had worked him on CW.

Now if you really want to see an amazing setup, HF to 432 on a motorcycle check this guy out. Unfortunately, he's not to active now, but trying to get things back together. Bob Curry, KC3VO is his call. Check out his bio on QRZ as he runs 1,500 watts on HF motorcycle mobile. If you're going to do it, do it big.

Just getting my sidecar motorcycle set up. Ten foot pole in two pieces on the struts holds ham sticks for 40 & 20 the guy wires for elevated ground plane. All strictly portable, APRS while moving. APRS is on an ancient kenwood 2 meter and mobilinkd. Also onboard Icom 7100, kenwood tm281 2 meter, and a 40 channel cb. Will be adding tuner for wire antennas for 80m. Getting cabin fever during a pandemic ...

    Hi Warren,

I was wondering if you could add a picture of how you have the radio hooked up on your bike. I have a Kawasaki Vulcan 900LT and need some ideas.

    Hi Dave!

I never had a radio hooked up on the bike. I carry an HT in a saddlebag or top box most of the time. I cabled up a power connector for charging. Sorry I couldn't help.

My hope at present is to carry my FT3DR in a new tank bag on my K1600GT and see what contacts I can make on high mountain rest stops in Shenandoah area of Virginia.

This is my 2017 HD Ultra Limited. I have no desire to permanently install a radio on my bike because I would never use it while riding, but I've been kicking around the idea of getting the IC-705 package and throwing it in the trunk and doing remote. Seems like a fun way to spend some weekend time. Ride for a while, set up in some hard to get grid squares or parks, call CQ for a while, grab a bite to eat and head home. The XYL loves to ride with me and she would enjoy getting away from everything and just relaxing for a few hours while I played radio.

Been riding 21 years, owned a '78 Honda CG125, Honda XBR500, Honda CB500, Triumph 900 Thunderbird, Suzuki DR600, Honda 600 Hornet, H-D 883 Sportster, Yamaha XT600E, Moto Guzzi Spada III, Suzuki GS500E, Suzuki Bandit 1200S, MZ ETZ251, Honda CB750 F2N, and finally another Honda CB500.
The Ham radio and bikes haven't overlapped until recently as I had given up radio when I got into bikes but have now started to combine the two by taking handhelds or the FT-817 and antennas, poles etc. to various locations for /P operation. I have got an antenna mount to fit to the bike and will probably give actual /M operating a go at some point.
