Well, I'll be dragged. I never knew til now why Bill Halligan chose to call it the "TO". Thanks, Carmen. If the rig Tony received in payment was a Cyclone, I think he was well-compensated. It represented about three weeks income for most people back then! But if I remember what I have read about Hallicrafters correctly, the Cyclone didn't come out until the mid-sixties, while the TO keyer came out about 1960 (as did I).
HI DAN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS. ALSO, CONGRATS ON YOUR MANY YEARS OF HAM RADIO. I WAS UP ON YOUR QRZ PAGE AND FOUND THIS JUST A HEADS UP. 73 - K1LKP
Thanks for the reminder, Carmen. Knew it was expiring this year but didn't realize it was happening so soon. Renewed online.
Good job Carmen! About 5 years ago I found a brand new in original box, never plugged in, tags still on it, TO-Keyer and use it to this day. Could I have put it on eBay for $500? Probably - but the money would have been long-ago spent on "who knows what", the buyer would have put it in his museum with all his "unbuilt Heathkits", but instead I get to use it on the air any time I want!!! I did know that W9TO designed it but I've learned a lot about the "back story" here and the whole CFO story. My W9TO Keyer is in regular use in my vintage shack positions - and I think it was a steal for $30 at an antique store Dave W7UUU
CONGRATS DAVE, ON BEING THE PROUD OWNER OF A W9TO KEYER. YES, YES, $30 DOLLARS WAS A STEAL. HAVE LOTS OF FUN WITH CW AND ENJOY THAT W9TO KEYER FOREVER 73 - K1LKP
