In the 80's I ran coast to coast, 2 meters & HF. I stayed on 40 meters mainly because it was mostly there day and night and it sure was especially helpful to keep me alert with a QSO in the wee hours... -My idea was To get the antenna -OUT away from anything else as possible and -UP as high as i could get by with. It would tick the underpasses once in a while and the tip of the antenna was a little kinked but I got out just fine.. With a 200 watt radio and that set up it worked fine for me... I checked into tube Colorado High Noon Net from the Vince Lombarbi Rest Area in New Jersey from a big truck a couple of times.. Good Luck ..73..

It's probably taken care of by now, but for other T-680 drivers you may check my page.
Bottom of the page shows my take on it:

I used a window mount in the T-680 I was in. The mount slips over the glass and stuck it out the window and rolled up the glass to secure it. Worked well for me. Google or search window mounts for 2 meter radio.
