Actually my reading of the initial post was that he was complaining about some DXpedition that was working split, not a "contest" per se, although he referred to it as DX Contesters.

What I think that 3EY was referring to is that R. Lee Ermey, the Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, who was the host of the cable television shows "Mail Call" and "Lock 'n Load", as well as being a movie actor in such movies as "Full Metal Jacket", died yesterday.

I see yourself and others referring to this individual as a "Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant."

My question is, did R. Lee Ermey actually serve in the U.S. Marine Corp or was he just portraying himself as a fictional character on TV?

I see a lot of " Semper Fi''s" and similar military salutations posted out there in various forums on the internet in response to his death, and was just wondering why everyone is treating him like he had former service in the U.S. Marine Corps.

    Is that true?
