An introductory session on Amateur Radio was conducted at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) on 25th of April 2026 in Karachi, Pakistan. Highlighting its relevance in today’s modern world as well as its critical role during emergencies and disaster situations. The session covered the basics of ham radio, including how it works, different modes of communication, and the importance of self-reliant communication systems when conventional networks fail. We also discussed real-world examples where amateur radio operators have provided vital communication support during natural disasters, search and rescue operations, and humanitarian efforts. It was encouraging to see the interest and curiosity among participants, especially regarding emergency preparedness and the technical side of radio communication. Amateur radio continues to be a powerful tool—not just as a hobby, but as a service to the community. Looking forward to more such sessions and to welcoming new operators into the ham radio community. 73s Muhammad Salman – AP2MS Karachi, Pakistan
