Not a good night for AM on 75m. Never seen static this bad.
I'll be poking around tonight starting about 10 central starting with 40. Broadcasters bang in at 11 on 40 at which point ill go to 75
Get away from the top end of the band and you will find plenty of open space between the BC stations, and little SSB activity. There is usually a big swathe of frequencies between about 7220 and 7260 that is almost devoid of signals after about 10 PM. But there is no guarantee that the QRN level will be any better on 40 than it is on 75.
There is the a strong broadcaster that fires up at 11:00 pm central on 7.295 .... another a bit lower... but as Don says, there is plenty of room between them. Thank goodness for VFO's!
