AL 811 newbee question about tubes

    Before transmitting on new tubes should they be conditioned ( power on) for some length of time?

    No, just turn the amp on let it warm up for maybe a minute(or less as 811's are 'instant on' tubes and warm up very quickly) and tune it per the manual.

    Tubes are fully activated and processed at time of manufacture.
    The user has no knowledge of processing required.
    The ongoing repeat of breaking "new" tubes in, is a fallicy. accent is on "new".

    Tom, W8JI, who designed this amplifier, posted a set of tuning instructions on his web page that differ slightly from the ones in the Ameritron manual. Anyone operating one of these amplifiers should read Tom's notes first if they want to avoid replacing tubes more often than necessary:
