Fran Kelly’s story is a familiar one to many ham radio operators. Encouraged by his friends, licensed at 15 years old, mentored by an electrical engineering professor, scraping together equipment for a home station, a lifelong career defined by his love of electronics, and then setting radio aside as life’s demand took over. And like so many others, a worldwide pandemic provided the welcome push to get Fran, KC1NDQ, back into ham radio. Today, Fran’s relationship with ham radio is defined by his relationship with other hams; the shared camaraderie that represents one of the finest aspects of the hobby.
Frank and I share a similar interest in POTA but he is at a much higher level than me. Always look forward to hunting him on POTA. W1IZT
I ran into Fran in Rhode Island during a POTA activation, where we happend to be activating the same park. Really cool and nice dude. I look forward to seeing him again sometime.
Hi Fran, its Denis from Station 1 (1990-2004). I had no idea you were a ham! Glad you're back on the air. 73 es hope to work you.
Nicely done. I enjoy working many of the locals when they're out activating. Sounds like a great group of folks at the Pilgrim Amateur Wireless Association.
