    On legacy processors:

In my half-century of pushing audio through broadcast AM transmitters and antenna arrays this is what I've found apparent:

The CRL stack or the Dorrorugh 310 always did and will always rule the roost.

Modulator tubes were just collateral damage...

As long as they were left powered on to avoid the wandering meter syndrome otherwise the FET bias pots would need to be brought out to the front panel with knobs.

    The SEPs are outstanding...

Nobody turns stuff off in a radio station unless dumb.

I've lost count of how many power switches were removed or shorted across.

My decent audio boxes in the shack (CRL, Hnat-Hindes) don't have on/off switches. I love the old analog processors -- front panels, knobs, switches, no menus, no battery backup...

Exactly. But since the 310 *has* a power switch, hamateur ops should non-intuitively avoid using it. Had one of these at work (1350 AM) and two (plus four 610s) at home. Big Dorrough fan, and got to know them, their quirks, and Mike very well.

The thing that's ruining broadcast AM audio these days is ratings equipment.

WOR out of NYC actually rings. Plain awful.

Does this gear tie in with the PPMs a sample of listeners are given to use?
the 1000 station here had that same problem, but it went away awhile back. Is the ratings stuff on all the time or only during certain sample times?
