I use a box (Symetrix 528E 'Voice Processor') in front of my rig's microphone input to limit the level. I have it setup to flatten the dynamic range. The expander reduces gain when I pause.

Once the amplifier is setup, I adjust the output of the box (or rig microphone gain) to just below flat topping. At that point, I can turn the 'scope off.

Pretty true. I have two scopes and one spectrum analyzer, all are pretty old Tek or HP.

But "nowadays," even brand new stuff from Rigol et al. are such an amazingly good deal, it's possible for "anybody" to just buy new stuff for not much more than my old stuff cost.

Every active ham should have at least one oscilloscope.

Just a bit ago, I took a quick look on a certain well-known auction site. I found older 100 MHz dual trace analog lab scopes for cheep, including shipping (link). :)

They are dirt cheap, the ones in really good shape are a bit more but still 100MHZ scopes are so reasonable these days.

After 103 pages of HARD HARD WORK, the SB-226 is operational and ready for service.
We will take it home in a little while and install it in the radio station
    the cabinet is installed
here is a FACEBOOK LIVE DEMO of the SB-226 working great!!!
I know a couple QRZeders were watching as I did everything I could to try and smoke it!!
    But it held up beautifully!!!
It was putting out ATLEAST 1300W on 6M
so the cabinet was installed and now I will take some final photos of it installed in the station.

Thanks for following me along on this very TIRING JOURNEY
But finally, FINALLY we have an amp not in the MUSEUM OF FUTILITY!!!

The experts said it couldn't be DONE!!! but here is living proof that you CAN have a REMOTE Power Supply for the SB-220. (IF you THROW enough money at it!)

All installed in the Radio Station!!!. Amp is on a HIGH SHELF, along with Big MFJ Wattmeter. Power supply sits on top of Drake L7 PS (boards lift PS above it so air flow for L7PS.) remote is right next to FT-736R for easy access
Power supply out of the way, where cats won't bother it
Amp high on the top shelf, where it needs no human interfacing
    ready for 6 METER DX!!!

Way to go Pat, OB. This is fantastic news. I sure hope you get some band openings out there to blow a hole in.
Since I am not a facebooker it would not let me see your video, so I will watch for Sue's. Sue will you put on youtube for us too stubborn to do FB?
