Recently,A new all mode HF DIY transceiver named KN990 made By BA6BF,

    it has many new features,

especially Real time spectrum and IF DSP。

As a surprise, this transceiver provide 2 video games!

It maybe the best video game station in amateur kits,

or the best amateur kit in video games。

    Here‘s abstract information:

Real time spectrum is very useful for finding signals in the band,

    it’s scope 150KHz,

refresh rate up to 30 frame in one second!

I like it very much ,because shoot DX signals is an easy job form now on。

    KN990 designed with IF DSP,

similar to Yaesu FT891,IF span & IF shift are adjustment easy,

and easier to use and more intuitionistic than FT891。

    Well!

MW and FM radio 、VHF bands are additional present,as BA6BF said,

besides HF band, the performance is not guaranteed,

because of no customized filters for these given bands。

KN990 support Chinese and English language。

All the operation are easy and directly。

The firmware can be updated by USB cable very handy。

Two video games installed in KN990,

it support most game handles which link by USB interface。

More video games will be installed, said by BA6BF。

Video games on a HF Transceiver? That's like putting a flashlight on a hand held Radio:-(

If you go camping with young kids, it might be a selling point to the wife. I would have preferred a inbuild logging application and sdcard. That is actually all going to be built into my next rig.

    ALT:

One might play video games when waiting for the DX station "working by the numbers" gets around to your call area number!

For $134 More you can get a real nice Factory fresh Yaesu FT891 or Icom IC-718.
If that radio was Half of that price I would probably buy it.

Who needs such a display for amateur radio and just "making contacts?"

I was an early adopter of Flex rigs with an amazing video display which helped me work exactly zero extra contacts I didn't find on my own, just tuning around.

For a small, lower cost CW/SSB/digital rig a K2 is a better deal and works very well (SSB as well as other features are options for those who don't need them).

Different strokes for different folks. for sure. But if the goal is "making contacts," some features don't help with that, especially if you're blind or pretend to be blind (as I do, when I'm on the air -- I rarely open my eyes and want to rest them).

the IC718 is a potato of a radio and you need to spend another $500 to buy filters for it. This would probably make a really nice portable rig, so comparing like for like with the ft817/8 another potato of a radio makes this look rather attractive. I do agree with you though it is probably about $100 more than i think it is worth. So this or the up coming qrp labs rig, I think i would take the qrp labs rig hands down.
