I have been here at NAS New Orleans for five days with the Washington National Guard. I have had very little time to get on the air but I do have an 817 with me and hope to get on 20 meters sometime soon. I will try 14.240 and go up 5 from there running QRP. I may also try PSK 31 on 14.070. I have tried 2 meters with no luck on any repeater in the area. Not even the outlying areas. It was worth a try but after flying over the city I now have a real good understanding. If there was an antenna on someones roof, its gone. There is only one commercial tower standing that I could see but I did not see the whole city just the affected areas.
Try to keep you posted but 16 hours shifts and no days off makes it a little difficult. I am writing this during lunch. 73 to all and I will do my best to get on the air even if its briefly. SGT Mitch Gill, Operation Katrina, NAS New Orleans
