"In Agawam, Massachusetts (and some surrounding cities) there is a
sure bet way to carry on the amateur radio hobby. Many of you may
may have read my article on the Boy Scouts of America and their "Ham
Disaster". Well, we're back! This time with a unit (called a
Venture Crew) which is devoted to emergency ham operations,
    and...continuing the hobby.

Scouts and non-scouts over fourteen can
join, women are allowed to join also. This Venture Crew is Crew 510
(Which is DX in roman numerals!!!) and plans to be contesting,
promoting the hobby, providing emergency services as well as regular
community services. John, KX1X, is the station trustee and one of
the many advisors who helped to get the crew up and running. Special
thanks to the advisors, and especially to Hampdon County Radio
Association for supporting us. We all think it will turn out to be a
population boost for amateur radio, and emergency preparedness. This
is just one of the ways you can help to keep our hobby alive."
