DX is really coming in STRONG on 80 tonight! Listening 3.8mhz and down, there are a number of pileups already. I found a US-Brit ragchew going on. Hmmm here is a 5T, there is a G0. Many Europe stations well over S9. Here in the US the left coast is strong. Time to get off here and go make a contact or two.
From the West coast, The Midwest and East coast are almost ALWAYS strong after sundown. Late one night, I worked TN and V73 (Kwajalein Island). Simultaneously. TN is 2000 miles to the East, and V73 is 4800 miles West. In the wee hours, JAs start coming in on 80m. They're 9K miles to the NW from here.
A quick check of the air miles calculator from my general area http://www.airmilescalculator.com/distance/grr-to-nrt/ shows 6288 air miles from Michigan to JA land. Still farther than I want to walk, but a radio contact would be fun!
Actually, air miles to Tokyo from Seatac airport is 4763 miles according to http://www.airmilescalculator.com/distance/sea-to-nrt/ your mileage may vary!
Yes. JA-land is ONLY 4763 miles from here. Regardless, I hear & work Asia on 80 all the time, the same that East Coasters hear/work EU on 80.
