NORTHERN ARIZONA DX ASSOCIATION 6th Annual Pluto Discovery Anniversary Special Event-W7P The Northern Arizona DX Association (NADXA) is proud to announce the 6th Annual Pluto Discovery Anniversary Special Event, taking place February 14-22, 2026. Operations will be based at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, set up in front of the new award-winning Marley Astronomy Discovery Center. Stations will be active daily, as time and band conditions permit. Flagstaff averages over 100 inches of snow each year, so there may be occasional weather interruptions—but NADXA members will also be operating from their home QTHs and from out‑of‑state locations to keep the event on the air. Be sure to work W7P, /W7P/P, W7P/0. This year, we’re considering setting up an EME station at the communications trailer. We’re not sure if it will be ready in time, but plans are underway, and we’ll share more details as they develop. This event commemorates the discovery of Pluto by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 at Lowell Observatory. We are honored to have Clyde’s nephew, Doug Tombaugh, N3PDT, and his team joining us again, operating as W7P/0 Each year of this 10‑year countdown to the 100th anniversary of Pluto’s discovery features a new commemorative QSL card highlighting the history of this remarkable achievement. To help cover mailing costs, envelopes, stamps, transportation and other expenses involved in putting on the event, there is a $1.00 donation required for each QSL card, which includes this year’s endorsement stamp for your contacts. A special QSL is also available for contacts with W7P/0. DIRECT QSLing only, NO BUREAU CARDS OR E-QSLS, SORRY! In addition, you can purchase a certificate for $5.00, with annual endorsement stickers available for each year you participate. Work both W7P and W7P/0 for 2 stickers each year. ATTENTION SCHOOLS! We would be glad to schedule a time for your AR, Science, or STEM class to contact us during the event. It would be a wonderful opportunity to talk with your students about Pluto and the Observatory here in Flagstaff. Just e‑mail me, and we will do our best to work you into our schedule. We welcome guest operators to join us at the Observatory— whether for a few hours, a few days, or the entire event. If you are interested in helping out, please e‑mail me see below or on QRZ.com. Full details will be available on our club website soon at www.nadxa.com and on QRZ.com under W7P. Previous years’ QSLs are available as souvenirs for $1 if you missed working us in the past. We look forward to putting you in the log and sharing a little more Pluto history with you each year! 73, Bob Wertz, NF7E, Pluto Event Coordinator Northern Arizona DX Association Bob6315@earthlink.net Photo courtesy of Lowell Observatory!
