The event marks the 118th anniversary of the adoption of both the SOS signal and the maritime calling frequency of 500khz, 600 meters in wavelength, medium wave. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/500_kHz Amateurs will operate “just down the band” from 600 meters throughout the evening, using CW from 472 to 475khz and the WSJTX mode FST4 (60 second pass) at 474.2khz USB. This event provides an opportunity for clubs or individuals to put a vintage MW transmitter back on the air, or perhaps try one of a number of solid modern approaches.
