Just so they could say, "W4ID, for ID."
Is this the new FCC WPX contest??
You have to admit that some are kind of catchy, such as W0BBLE. And one guy wanted a W6 call, so quite logically he requested W6CALL.
mmhmm... i like :
these applicatns arent thinking far enough ahead..1x2 calls stink for WPX
It's interesting that the Commission hasn't allowed such calls yet, since they have been allowed by ITU for several years now.
Perhaps the Commission's crystal ball has shown the inevitable train-wreck that would occur if such calls were allowed?
Maybe? I can't think of what might cause significant problems. There would likely be a spike in applications for a while, as people exercised their "creativity." But given that there are less than a million of us total, surely the Commission's computers could handle it?
I suppose there's that same issue that exists with license plates, preventing the issuance of sequences that might be deemed "offensive to the general public." That said, just watching a few hours of broadcast TV in the US in 2018 tells me that ship has already sailed.
Straight from the "Department of Redundancy Department".
You can throw away all those applications, just make a copies of them first.
There would be a lot fewer if a certain person had not previously advertised the availability and the date here on the Zed!
