    Gotta love 40.
I haven't strayed far from 40 since I started. My first qso was on it and will probably have my last one on it.
Had more antennas on 40 than other bands.
My highest count is on 40, followed by 80 and 15.

This morning I worked YB8OUN on 40 meters FT8 at 7:39AM local (11:39Z) and it was confirmed in LoTW less than 20 minutes later.

All bands have been very poor for me for 3 or 4 months. When I see FT8 signals of -20 from Texas to Rhode Island, I just turn off the radio.

Propagation is a strange animal. Look at the "ALL" portion below. Indonesia was -06, but Texas stations were -18 and -16. W1LEM is 675 miles east of my QTH, and he was -21. It is 9147 miles to Indonesia and "armchair copy", so to speak.

In the last four months, I have had 92 DX QSOs, all CW. 12 were on 20m, the rest were all on 40m.

My conclusion? I need a better 20m antenna.

40 METERS IS ALWAYS A GREAT BAND, its a shame that most of the people in pileups, and there are a lot of them, don't use better operating skills. I have clocked up 45 new countries in the last 3 months. yes 45, using my new list started on qrz.com in 2015. I was sitting at 62 countries, using 100 watts and a WINDOM antenna. I have built three of these antennas that are fantastic on 40 meters. if you can find two immovable supports about 42 meters apart you can enjoy a lot of dx. As i say ive found 45 new countries by not using the preamp on my 706mk2g, and listening for readable weak stations. If they are 59+60, they are most cretainly all ready logged, but im after those areas that havent been heard before. a 3 by 9 readable is all you need. some ive had to persist on to get heard but most have turned or switched antenna or pointed it my way and the qso has gone up to a 59 plus on most occasions, or just wait as the band opens up and they get louder. The band has been open most days, probably 80% of the time, and im talking of traffic between 09:00 and 01:00 local time . Just take a look at my recent stations on my logbook. if anyone wants help to build a WINDOM, ( not the carolina windom) there is a lot of photos on my page on how to build one . and get busy on 40..
