Why will you not cross the 300 countries Mark . With your antenna Array you should have no problem making the 300 mark .you just need to put in the time ? K8PG Paul
I agree. I started DXCC (worked, don't care about confirmed) all over again when I moved into an HOA using a screwdriver antenna. Now over 290 countries, but no Bouvet. At this point and age, my DX searching/pursuit is pretty much over, and won't sit in crazy pileups aggravating myself with the idiot DQRMers and other clueless ops. I'll stick with contesting and the instant gratification of decent QSO rates per hour.
I could not have said it better myself. I'm surprised at how much our thoughts are aligned on this. Must be the age - the same, or the number of entitites confirmed - I'm a little higher. Not sure how long this activation will last. I may be late getting home in time for it. Likely the last Bouvet activation of my lifetime, and that is fine. As for what defines a "True DXer", I don't know, all I know is that it's not something that I'll pursue regardless of the cost.
From one of their Facebook posts: Livestream: The team leaders chose to Not use livestreaming due to unreliable internet connections corrupting uploads. When the connection fails, logs get Stuck and can suddenly send false data when connections are restored. __________________________________________ I did send an email to the lead pilot asking if they could use an alternative site to post timely updates, like their web page or this thread here on QRZ. We'll see what happens.
Dave, you're a good op and no reason not to be able to get to 300+. You can do it. You have the skill, ability, and station to do so. And I agree. Climbing to 300 isn't too difficult, Above 300 is entirely a waiting game. With 300 in the log, you have proven that you can place RF to every corner of the earth without issue. Now it's a matter of doing that feat when someone on the other end is listening and able to respond. Those last 40 entities are not populated entities, and a handful populated but without legal means to operate ham radio so require waiting for a dxpedition or regime change to activate them. It's a war of attrition. So for me, it's simply the personal satisfaction -- no one else cares if you worked 340 or not, especially with FT8 that is now a computer to computer (no skills needed) contact. It's become a cheapened achievement for me; You don't need to listen, to change VFO, to listen to DRQM, to transmit at the exact moment, to be able to copy and send cw, nor create and copy a signal that is well above noise level. So, DXing to me is simply a personal challenge. Make it what you want to make it I worked n confirmed Bouvet on CW in 2023. Not needed now, except for band fills which I don't care about. So standing back and listening for a few days is good operating practice. Let the guys who need Bouvet go first. Get it. I can go later when there are fewer takers, although I would like them on 160M top band! I reset DXCC count to zero 4 years ago and am trying to get to honor roll as quickly as possible using only CW or SSB (no digital). In a mere 4 years I am at 280/340 on CW/SSB only (no digital) .. yes, it can be done. I have a modest station. I am not yet retired so am not on air 24 H/ day, but I do focus on dxing and impr0ving my on air radio skills. There are many that, over the years, I have missed and will likely never work (Scarborough Reef, North Korea which I visited by haven't worked, and a handful of others). That's OK. I'm in this for me and no one else. DX is a personal achievement and recognizes your ability to build a station, to operate effectively, and to place RF anywhere you need it to be on earth. It's just that simple. No more, no less. Saw a cluster spot yesterday with TU ATNO 340. That's an achievement. Proud of him and our hobby to allow that. He stuck with it and good for him ! Everyone plays radio differently, to be sure. Good luck in the hunt. Ignore the DQRM. They will get bored eventually.
Fair enough. I thought they were using Starlink, and that Starlink is reliable, perhaps not in that part of the world. In this case, better not take a chance. Can you imagine the mess, an additional one, corrupted uploads would cause?
One would think that QRZ and eHam would be copied on the information. We don't know the undercurrents, but not even on their own website (if this is indeed the case, I did not check myself) is hard to justify.
Yes, I would think that their website would be the primary source of info, and everybody could check it without restriction. Maybe that volume of traffic would overload the server?
I tried it a couple of times in the past but could not warm up to it. I think that for this kind of info Xitter, formerly known as Twitter, is better than Fecesbook.
