A quick recap from the Oregon SOTA Campout. We had at least 49 attendees (including SOs and Families). My SOTA points were nearing Mountain Goat before the campout. I had 36 points shy of 1000. I drove down on Thursday with Adam K6ARK and we hit two drive up summits for a combined total of 10 points. We operated 40m SSB to quickly get the QSOs. On Friday we opted to activate summits on the Siskiyou Crest, west of Ashland. We got an early start, but the day heated up. We planned on 3 summits, but ended up doing 4 (oops!). With the 2 summits from the previous day, we actually ended up with 6 in a single UTC day. A record for us both! This was 24 points, so 2 shy of my 1000. Saturday morning I was joined by N6RUN, N7NWT, and KI6SYD at 4am to head up Mount Mcloughlin. We summited just before 7:30 and got QRV. Upon my 4th QSO, N7NWT placed some goat horns on my head . We operated for about an hour up there and then headed down. Sunday we hit 3 more summits. In the afternoon, K6ARK, N7NWT, and I headed up Table Mountain for some DX fishing. We set up Adam's 3lb 10 meter moxon package and ran an IC-706MKIIG. Most of VK was at work, but we managed 3 VK QSOs and WW7D in Washington on 10m. It was a blast trying a new way to operate. Monday we said goodbyes and packed up camp. Hit two short hike summits on our drive home. My totals: 13 summits, 188 QSOs, 78 points, 74 S2S QSOs. 73 de Tim N7KOM!
Fun video. 2M CW, quite an outside the box mode for POTA it would seem - thanks for showing that it can work. Perhaps a bit more data on the radios used/antennas employed would be welcome.
Thanks for watching! We were doing 2M CW with the Quansheng UV-K6 with custom firmware. The custom firmware allows for CW and SSB (actually DSB) operation. We all used the rubber duck antennas that come with the UV-K6. 73!
