Last night at 11:15, the band stretched out and I made a contact with N0ETR in Kansas at 170 miles as the crow flies, on 2m simplex. 50 watts and a tiny moxon beam got me a DX contact for my logbook. I had 3 S units on him and perfect copy, He missed a few words I said, so not quite as good that direction. But all pertinent info was exchanged. Give this mode and band a try during field day, just be sure to follow the rule of "no field day event contacts on 146.52 and its guard frequencies". This translates to 15 khz either side of .52 in 5 land, and 20 khz in some other areas.
