Is your 2m AM net still active? I have a Heath HW17 and Gonset Communicator III. Located west of Richmond Va. , Richard WB4FAX
But on 2 meter AM, you generally have to work hard for it working between stations. * Most nostalgic 2 meter transceivers ran roughly 2 watts to roughly 20 watts RF input. A few stand-alone 2 meter transmitters ran higher power but then you needed a 2 meter receiver or an HF receiver with a 2 meter converter. * Most nostalgic 2 meter rigs were not designed for Hi-Fi type audio. Communication quality audio was the norm and best suited for 2 meters. * Generally, 2 meters is considered line of sight transmission so, the higher the antenna, helps to extend your line of sight transmission. Band openings, which are rare but do happen, can help tweak the range. * In a net, antenna polarization is important. If your 2 meter antenna is horizontal and many of the rest of the net is vertical, you will spend most of your net time rotating your antenna to each station transmitting and hope that you can hear them.
