Seems like an extremely dangerous creation.. works in the ham bands according to the article:

According to the article it only breaks one FFC rule, that is that it operates in the ham bands. Well for one thing, that's still a 10000$ fine. Not only that, but I bet the FCC would be happy to come down HARD on them for sniffing private cell and wireless data.

 

Not necessarily. The problem is there's not enough info in the article.

But...

There are channels SHARED with ham radio, and those channels allow for extra power and remove things like restrictions on detachable antennas. If just one person on the team has a ham license, then it's legal...

I didn't find any Mike Tassey or deriviative names in the database, but there are 6 names that COULD be Richard Perkins

Why is it Dangerous? Just because 2 innovative guys are able to build something that can get past wifi & cellular "security" (Cough), they are put into the Dangerous fray. Maybe what should be looked at is the Weak Security that is implemented buy the corporations that built the networks to begin with for us Civilians. If we all could have the secure phones and wifi that Big Bro has then we would not need to worry about this...

Oh wait - thats right - then the Feds would not be able to keep track of us as well.

If your worried about 2 guys - you better really be worried about what the Government is doing as they are the real criminals.
