From time to time I check eBay to see what floats to the surface that might be interesting and there seems to be an uptick in broadcast transmitter listings. Nobody bid on a Gates BC1G with a starting price of $800. Now there's a seller with a Harris MW-1A and an RCA BTA-1R listed with starting bids of $1.00 and $0.99 respectively. It will be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully the bias supply mod was done to the Harris.

Hamateurs in Beaver Dam, WI should take note.

I remember helping a friend of mine retrieve a BTA-250K from a station in western VA. I was able to read some of the notes in the technical log for the BTA-1R they were using. Apparently they had some trouble with getting it to fully modulate. They even had RCA technicians in and the best they got were 85~90% modulation. One of the local engineers, (Lamont, ex-KK4BO) told us that it was tough to get 100% from tetrodes as opposed to triodes. He was one that advocated triodes for audio and tetrodes/pentodes for RF.

Interesting, just sold a Harris MW-1A with the Mod Enhancer to a N.C. station two years ago. as a back-up/parts transmitter.

Just moved an MW-1 as you know Clark. Heavy for a 3 legged fuse model.

I set one of the first MW-1A's in AZ back in the mid-70's.

It is still at that station, and still works.

    Not one of Gates worst.

in ‘87 I bought a ‘62 VW Bug for a cappuccino (0.5$) at Cafe Roma in Berkeley. In the mornings I had to momentarily jumper the 6V battery with a 12V one for that first start of the day but hey, for 50c I wasn’t gonna complain.
