The 17th annual Ham Radio University (HRU) educational conference and New York City/Long Island Section Convention of ARRL will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Briarcliffe College, 1055 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, Long Island, NY 11714 HRU is NOT a hamfest/flea market. It is a day of activities at which some 300 hams will share ideas, experiences, knowledge and fellowship. The event will include more than two dozen informational forums and hands-on workshops moderated by local experts in a broad range of Amateur Radio activities including: Building an Amateur Radio Station; Emergency Power for Homes; Communicating through Amateur Radio Earth Satellites; Hidden Transmitter Hunting; and workshops on Ethernet connectors and computer-based electronic test equipment. Several forums will be video live-streamed on the internet. The keynote speaker will be David Sumner, K1ZZ, Chief Executive Officer of ARRL. Special Event Station W2HRU will be on-the-air at various times on 7.250 and 14.250 +/- QRM the week prior to the event and on 7.273, 14.273 and 21.273 +/- QRM 13:00-20:30 UTC the day of the event. Ham Radio University is a cooperative effort supported by radio clubs and related organizations in the New York City - Long Island area. They will have displays in a Club Room and provide information about ham radio licensing classes, public service events and other amateur radio activities.
