    I noticed that. We definitely need more info about the OP's hardware.

    The Daiwa service manual for a 801G model lacks VSWR spec for the meter's contribution.

    Is it possible the OP hooked up the meter backwards by mistake?
    My Elmer tells me that could account for VSWR through the roof
    on cross-needle meters like these.

    Our club uses a GP-21 for some special events.
    Never a problem with it, but of course it's not up 24/7.
    We use about 15 feet of LMR-600, mast about 10 feet.
    One member has the CN-801GF and CN-801S II. I have the CN-801G.
    We've used them with the Icom ID-1, but haven't tried it on the IC-9700 yet.
