“The Town That Saved Itself” special event, April 18 & 19, remembers when the Mississippi River tried to destroy Winona, Minn. 50 years ago in 1965.
Huge snowfalls in the river’s watershed became huge waters that threatened the island city. More than 7,000 volunteers, dikes and prayers held off the water for nearly three weeks.
The Winona ARC will commemorate the Great Mississippi River Flood of 1965 using the call sign W1N from 1400Z to 2200Z each day, April 18 & 19. Frequencies will be
    7.21965, 10.11965, 14.31965, 21.31965
A certificate available (SASE required) at
    W1N - 1965
