    GALESBURG - Lyle W. Dunlap, 95, of rural Galesburg, died at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at The Elms in Macomb.

    He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Galesburg, the son of Edmond Glenn Dunlap and Nelle (Crotts) Dunlap. He married Helen Barrie Swankie on Oct. 20, 1944, in London. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1999. He later married Kathleen (Anderson) Trulson on Aug. 27, 2000. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Barrie Schaffer; one granddaughter, Kelli Johnson-Smith; one granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Johnson; one sister, Norma Dunlap; and one half brother and one half sister.

    Lyle is survived by one daughter, Heather (and Mark) Rice of Los Angeles; his grandchildren, Mark D. (and Chrystal) Johnson, Jennifer (and Matt) Foist, Brett (and Robin) Rice, Barrie (and Lauren) Rice and Meredith (and Don) Gromala; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

    Lyle graduated from Abingdon High School in 1942. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War in communications, retiring in 1970 as a chief petty officer. He was a lifetime member of the International Chief Petty Officers Association and Monmouth VFW, member of the Atlantic Chief Petty Officers Association, Subvets Inc., Fleet Reserves Association and Eastern Canadian Chiefs. He was also a member of the Abingdon Half Century Alumni and Lake Bracken Country Club. He was a past Mason and Shriner.

    Military rites and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    Memorials may be made to the Monmouth VFW. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.

    Lyle, was a member of the Chicken Fat Operator's Morse Code Club. He was a top notch CW Operator and
    was always helping others in their quest to learn Morse Code. Lyle will be sadly missed by his friends at
    the Chicken Fat Operators Morse Code Club.
