Any propagation that will carry our signals is great! Wonderful achievement.

They should have used GOOD OLD SPARK GAP, or maybe AM, just like it's supposed to be.

I agree, an unattended contact is not a QSO just 2 computers talking to each other via radio instead of Internet, a cool adaption of ham radio, but not a QSO

Seems like this achievement as brought out the "Luddites"
I bet they think the "First" SSB contact was not a real QSO... Dah Di Dah

I managed D41CV at 4467km which, had I achieved it a couple weeks ago, been a IARU R1 record, with just a 3 ele Yagi and 55W.

    Things have moved on...

In law, we would then have to dismantle that assertion and ask: what is the definition of a QSO?

Answer: QSO - 'Can you communicate with ... direct (or by relay)?' and 'I can communicate with ... direct (or by relay through ...).'

and by extension, 'I have communicated with ... direct (or by relay).'

So, there is nothing in the definition of QSO that permits your assertion to hold true.

I therefore dismiss your assertion, counter-claiming that it is, instead, mere prejudice.

    In my case:

    • Retries: well, none of any unusual note. One repeated signal report.
    • Spectrum? Eh?
    • How long? 90 seconds, start to finish.
    • In attendance? Yep.
    • 'Not a contact'. It is. Argue your point, rather than old-man assert.

    Your point?

Another one? Nobody has established - and it seems to be incorrect - that there was 'no attendance'. This prejudice can only arise from ignorance.

What is CW and a radio? A machine (may or may not be human-initiated) sending a machine-generated sound via EM radiation. Does the operator have to generate the EM directly by waving his arms, rather than the machine doing so, to qualify it as a 'proper ol' fashioned QSO'? No (and the arms are mechanical, anyway!) It's a bit like the Amish arguing against technology whilst being happy to use hand tools and wheeled carts; there is no underlying basis for rejecting one over the other.

Crikey there are some silly people on here. Move on, die off, and let positive, happy people take the hobby forward.

I do not do unattended contacts on FT8 or any other mode I am right at the control point for every QSO I make, the exception being when I run to the Kitchen for another 808 10 seconds at best;)
I dont think not being there would be any fun anyway:(
