N7N this is HA3H, my QTH is Hungary. Yes I would be happy to talk to some of the Scouts at Jamboree on the Air.





And so this conversation began along with many others across the country and around the world during JOTA weekend this past October at Hooper Park, Utah. (See the logs enclosed for all other contacts made). The above contact was made on 10-meter phone.


For those not familiar with a one by one (1xl) special events call there are a total of 750 1x1 call signs that can be reserved for a short term special event. These call signs are reserved and issued by the American Radio Relay League. For your information special events call N7N has already been issued for JOTA 2001.For more information visit the ARRL web site.


Being our seventh annual JOTA for the Davis County Amateur Radio Club it was indeed another very successful event.


Many of us did not think that this event would continue to be as strong as it continues to be after six years but we were wrong. This event continues to have as many in attendance as the previous year. This is why I appreciate each and every one of you in the ham world and those that are not hams that continue to come out each year and support this event.


Jamboree on the Air would be a pretty dull and boring event were it not for amateur radio and you.


Total attendance of Scouts and adult leaders was app. 350 this year (38 troops). Two hundred and twenty two Scouts successfully completed the Radio Merit badge requirements at the event this year.


One Scout in particular earned high recognition from those in attendance due to his excellence in the Scout laws and beliefs. In perfect uniform, John Westbrook stood out among the crowd in his Scout uniform with all detail in perfect order. (See photos within article). This is a great accomplishment for a Scout and certainly deserves recognition. Congratulations John.

Thanks to Ray Strong and the Hooper Park personnel for being able to have JOTA at their wonderful facility again and to Clearfield City for the use of their Emergency operations trailer.


Once again amateur radio was demonstrated at it’s best with many capable and experienced operators on hand.


I encourage you to mark the dates of October 20 and 21, 2001 on your calendars now and plan to offer your assistance and expertise to this wonderful event. Many have already offered to return next year as well as several new people have already come forward to help next year.


We seek those knowledgeable in packet radio, satellite communications and whatever other ham-related topics you are experienced in to set up your stations and use you skills at JOTA 2001. We could use your expertise to help keep the Scouts be occupied throughout the Friday evening. Won’t you consider helping on JOTA 2001?
