Any tips for throwing a great Field Day event?

the sooner the invites go out, the better.

those type of calendars get filled fast and early.

I didn't see any mention of VHF ops. If you can get a decent site with some elevation...doesn't have to be a mountain top, although if it could be arranged...you can get some points on 6 and 2 SSB. And then there's always the points for a site that features public exposure. Take a good look at the less mainstream methods of gathering points and see if you can work them in.

 

Wow, wow, wow! You fellow QRZers have been so awesome with the tips!!! I'm taking all I can into consideration. You've made me feel as though I'm on the right track. I will share these ideas with our group on the 5th of May during our meeting. If you guys have any more tips, I'll stay receptive as long ad you all are!
