Kenneth “Bud” Jon Larson, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Bud was born November 12, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa to Kenneth A. and Lillian B. (Kampley) Larson. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1950. He married Beverly Iola Fisher on October 11, 1952, at Grandview Baptist Church on the east side of Des Moines. Bud had enlisted in the United States Army and was shipped out seven days after his wedding. He was stationed in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

Beverly and Bud raised two children, Bill (born June 24, 1959) and Jodi (born August 31, 1962). They kept their home on the east side of Des Moines since 1964. Bud worked as a repair technician in blueprint machine repair. He was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church. Bud’s hobbies were varied and included a passion for ham radio. He loved talking to people across the country and took pride in assisting in organizing relief efforts during times of natural disasters. His call sign was WA0QBP and he made many enduring friendships through his involvement in the ham radio community. He also liked fishing, camping and traveling with his wife, Beverly, and spending time with his grandson, Chad. Bud was very talented at working with his hands and could fix anything.

He is survived by his children, Bill Larson, and Jodi (Jim) Mitchell; grandchildren, Chad Moldovan, Sean Larson, and Shelby Reid; sister, Vona Ann Burbank; brother-in-law, Ted (Mabel) Fisher; brother-in-law, Jim Fisher, many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends; and his cat, Moe, and dog, Bella.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Larson in 2002, his parents, and a brother and sister in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Burial with military honors will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the services. There will be a reception at the funeral home following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Camp Appanoose in Plano, Iowa, the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines or a charity of your choosing.
