    Of note, to those radio amateurs who DIY Build -- USB to UART/TTL bridge cables (programming, computer control, etc).
    I featured a DIY Build on QRZ Q&A last August, for CAT control of Kenwood HF radios, using this same SparkFun cable (DEV-09718).

    SparkFun Electronics
    Part # DEV-09718 : FTDI Cable, 5V : $ 14.95 ... ON SALE till Sept. 1 (over 2,000 in stock).

    REPRINT of Kenwood ACC1 (6-pin DIN) to USB Cable Project -- August 2014.
    ---
    In addition to the SparkFun/FTDI USB cable, you will need a 6-pin DIN plug.
    ===
    PART 1 - Install DIN plug to USB Cable
    The physical cable wiring is fairly Straight-Forward,
    BUT you have to remember to CROSS (null modem style) RxD/TxD and RTS/CTS.

    WIRE COLOR Wiring
    6-PIN DIN (PLUG) CONNECTOR ----- FTDI USB cable, after cutting off 0.1" connector, Color Leads.

    1 - Earth (Ground) <-----> BLACK Wire (GND)
    2 - TxD <-----> YELLOW Wire (RxD)
    3 - RxD <-----> ORANGE Wire (TxD)
    4 - CTS <-----> GREEN Wire (RTS)
    5 - RTS <-----> BROWN Wire (CTS)
    6 - N/C (not connected) <-----> RED Wire (+5 VDC) -- NOT Connected.
    RED Wire is +5 VDC from computer's USB port, it should NOT be stripped.
    The RED wire could have a future usage, illuminate a SMT LED to show computer connection.

    DOUBLE CHECK Your Work !!
    You Solder Wires on the Back of the Plug Connector (same view as Socket on Radio).
    NOTE Position of connector Key.
    Photo below is Female jack, but Kenwood rear panel rotated connector 180 degrees (key at top) from the photo.

    ===
    PART 2
    FT_PROG to Program the EEPROM with the FTDI Cable.
    Invert the Serial Lines to Match Kenwood radio ACC1 connector levels.

    PROGRAM (Configure internal EEPROM) this new cable with FTDI's FT_PROG utility
    to INVERT these 2 Signal Lines (TxD, RxD) and 2 Control lines (RTS, CTS)
    for proper operation with the Kenwood ACC1 Connector.

    You can go to the FTDI Utilities web page and DOWNLOAD (Save to your Computer) the FT_PROG Utility.

    Charlie -

    PLEASE Post your Q&A in the Technical Forums — for Proper Guidance.

    This is NOT a Radio Audio / Computer Sound Card (DSP) Interface,
    which is required for Digital Modes you listed. This functionality appeared in 1990s with software written for DSP technology found in PC sound cards.
    Numerous commercial solutions, for those that do not DIY Build.
    https://www.dxengineering.com/search/part-type/digital-mode-interfaces

    This Interface described in this posting is for Remote CONTROL of the Radio’s 8-bit Microprocessor (Tuning, Mode, etc.). The described interface will NOT work with your Kenwood TS-430S HF transceiver (NO ACC1 connector or electronics).
    This Control function has existed since 1980s with first generation solid-state radio and digital control replacing Analog VFO/PTO. Known by: Yaesu CAT, Icom CI-V, and Kenwood never created a “brand name”.
