Ofcom database of callsigns Not Available for issue

Short calls are available for those radio amateurs who pass Intermediate or Advanced exams but for Advanced it may not be clear which short G2 or G3 calls are available, this database may help

In 2016 Ofcom released a database containing all the callsigns that were Not Available for issue as at September 20, 2016. They are categorised as either Allocated (current), Reserved (those calls that had ceased being renewed apparently after sometime in the 1990's), and Forbidden.

The callsigns that are not listed in the database seem to be regarded as Available for issue. This should help in selecting your three choices of preferred Full callsign.

Very few 2*0xx Intermediate short calls have been issued so there is a very good chance of getting your first choice, the same applies to the short Full M5xx call block. The database is only handy if you are looking for a call from a previously issued prefix block.

The QRZ.com site shows that one of the short calls issued recently was G2NV on August 6, 2019. This call was originally issued around 1920 but it ceased being renewed in the 1960's. Ofcom's 2016 database had showed it was unallocated so available for issue.
