On March 26th 2020 NH Governor Chris Sununu issued a statewide “stay-at-home” order that goes into effect on Friday, March 27th and runs through Monday May 4th. NEAR-Fest XXVII at Deerfield NH has been cancelled by this order. There was no doubt this was coming; it was just a question of when. The name “NEAR-Fest XXVII“ is being retired with full honors. We hope to see you all at the Northeast HamXposition at Marlborough MA in July and NEAR-Fest XXVIII October 16th and 17th 2020 but with a pandemic such as this there are no guarantees. Mike, This is definitely one of my favourite hamfests of the year. The decision to cancel is disappointing, but fully expected and understandable. Given that most of the crowd are typically 50+ yrs old, highly susceptible group for COVID-19 , we don't want any of our NEARC memories to be SK attendees. We are moving ahead to begin planning NEAR-Fest XXVIII on October 16th and 17th 2020. It is, of course, too early to speculate whether NEAR-Fest XXVIII will be cancelled and it very well may be depending on the situation at the time. Rest assured that we will not hold our fester unless we are convinced it is safe to do so. We would of course err on the side of caution. We will be selling advance tickets in May and hope that folks will buy them to support NEAR-Fest. In the event that the October event is cancelled tickets will be valid for the next NEAR-Fest so no one should worry about losing their money. The ARRL New England Division convention has been rescheduled for November 6th - 8th,at the Best Western Royal Plaza hotel in Marlborough MA.
