Really good results? So you made a contact. Someone Worked All Continents on a light bulb. I have a 3 element beam on 20 meters and a 40 meter dipole at 50'. I make 800 contacts in a contest weekend and that isn't even considered good.
The reason that just about any antenna will "work" is that it's really hard to make a good dummy load.

All antennas are dipoles. "Dipole" is the prefix "di-", meaning "two", plus "pole", thus "two poles". Nothing there says the poles have to be equal, only that there are two of them. An off-center-fed dipole is not a Windom, which is a single-wire-fed Marconi antenna. An "end-fed" is a dipole where the second pole is ground or a counterpoise such as the feedline shield.

In summary, all antennas have two poles, so all are dipoles.

    Keep studying.

Now THAT should go on a billboard. Excellent comment! Gave me a chuckle as well.
