HR2.0 - Elecraft K4 Ham Radio Transceiver - Hands On, FIRST LOOK!

The Elecraft K4 is the latest and greatest HF Ham Radio Transceiver from Elecraft and today I get to sit down in front of one and go through some menus, plus show all of the buttons, ports and connections, and awesome touchscreen!

ANT 4 is for a future transverter option, and TX SMPL is for "pure signal" or similar pre-distortion with the KPA1500. Neither option is ready yet.

 

I was able to meet the Yalie co-founder of Elecraft at the New England ARRL Convention in '19, and he was a very nice guy. He brought a K4 for display; beautiful rig.

There are 2 current BNC ports in the back for Transverters now, seems odd that would be a later option also.

 

Though K4 is really something, I kept finding my eyes drifting to the K3.

Interesting radio. Good to see they are still offering double superhet modules.

 

My K4D is significantly quieter than my K3S. Super radio. Teams up perfectly with the KPA1500.

Mhh...can´t tell how it will be in technical specs and please don't hit me for this, but the Interface (GUI) looks like 7610 as already mentioned, but little bit oldscool like Windows 3.11.

 

The video misses the distinction between the K4, the K4D, and the K4HD. As Elecraft explained to me at Hamvention 2019, the K4 is the basic dual-receiver unit. The K4D adds the ability to use different antennas for the two receivers and for each to use its own set of roofing filters. And the K4HD adds 8 MHz superhet front ends (which can be switched in and out) to the two radios of the K4D. So, you have more and more receive options.

 

You mean the touted "high level overview" video?

 

Wow, a very nice radio would love to own one, but to get one of these radio would take forever. A long waiting list to have the radio built and shipped.
